The Rugby in Bloom campaign is run by Rugby
Borough Council
Rugby in Bloom 2014 was
organised by Rugby Borough Council, with support from a host of community
organisations, volunteers, businesses and schools.
This year the themes were
remembrance, to coincide with the centenary of the start of WWI, and
edible borders. Special prizes were awarded for the most
appropriate and imaginative interpretations of these themes.
Thanks to their partners at
Blooms and Sutton's Seeds, Rugby Borough Council distributed free
poppy seeds to schools, community groups and parish councils. The
winners of the Rugby in Bloom Awards were announced at a ceremony at
Blooms Rugby Garden Centre on 18 September 2014.
In this year's
Rugby in Bloom competition, Wolvey Village Square
and Wolvey Old Cricket Field Wetland Reserve both gained
GOLD awards. There were also awards for the Blue Pig - 1st in
the Pubs & Hotels category and Wolvey Surgery - 1st in the Shops and
Offices category, also Wolvey Post Office & Stores were 3rd in
this category. Dr Jenny Burton was 1st in the Medium to Large
Garden category and the Thatched Cottage, Coventry Road, Wolvey was highly
Commended.
