This year Rugby in Bloom is celebrating its 23rd
year.
Each
year the
campaign is run by Rugby Borough Council with the co-operation of many local
organisations, groups and individuals without whom it would not be possible.
The aim of the competition is to encourage all sectors of the community to
brighten up the environment with flowers. There are various categories to
enable residents living in the town and villages (with a variety of gardens)
to participate. There are various trophies and prizes awarded for all of the
categories.
2012 saw Rugby in Bloom celebrate both the
Queens Diamond Jubilee and the hosting of the London Olympics. There were
special displays celebrating both events around the Rugby town centre as
well as two new categories for 2012 only, including the best Olympic display
and the best Diamond Jubilee Display.
In this year's
Rugby in Bloom competition, Wolvey Old Cricket Field Wetland Reserve were awarded a
GOLD
and were overall winner
in the Environmental Category and Wolvey Village Square were awarded a
Silver Gilt
in the Community Category.
