Wolvey Village Hall committee carries out a rolling programme aimed at
making the hall more comfortable and attractive to the community. In recent
years we have, for example, had new furniture, re-plastering, new kitchen
flooring and redecoration.
Now, we are looking at energy usage
and have had, with the guidance of our parish & borough councils, an energy
survey completed. This showed that there were two main areas for reducing
The first recommendation was to
replace the 25 year old oil boiler. We were already working on doing this,
although the rather exorbitant cost of providing a gas connection - around
?3000 - is seen as a problem.
The second recommendation was to bring the
insulation of the hall, which is 90 years old, up to current standards.
This has been done at a cost of some ?1200, shared between the Hall
committee and Rugby Borough Council. We would have saved perhaps ?200 of our
own share by laying the 10inches of roof insulation ourselves, but when we
looked at the amount of insulation needed, the height of the main hall
ceiling and the age of committee members we decided unanimously to have the
work completed by a contractor!
